CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is a compound extracted from the hemp plant. It is
one of more than 100 unique compounds found in hemp, known as cannabinoids. The
Hemp Plant, and the Marijuana Plant look similar (just like different kinds of peaches or
berries look similar, or like oranges and lemons are citrus fruits) but have different
compounds. CBD from Hemp is not like marijuana in that they do not impact the brain
(not psycho active) and won’t interfere with daily living. Hemp is low THC (less than
0.03%) but higher in CBD than marijuana.
CBD (Cannabinoids) are known to promote health and to keep people deal with daily
stress, and help them be resilient to changes in their environment. The reason they
work is our body has CBD receptors (endocannabinoids) spread throughout our body.
Just like our body can signal thirst so that we drink water, our CB1 receptors (found in
the brain and spinal cord) and CBD 2 receptors (found in immune cells and parts of our
nervous system) can help signal the body when it is under stress. Several studies are
showing the role that CBD can play in helping better sleep, rest, and mood.
The human body produces substances similar to the CBD found in Hemp. In January
2017 a study confirmed that cannabinoids occur naturally in human breast milk, and
some studies suggest that it is part of the happy feeling a runner experiences after a
long workout. In order to produce the proper amount of endogenous cannabinoids, the
body requires a sufficient amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, so eating healthy and taking
Omega supplements may help support your natural endocannabinoid system.
