There is so much about CBD oil online and in the news – both positive and negative – that sometimes it’s really hard to know what’s real and what’s hype.
In an effort to get an honest, real world, first-hand testimonial about the benefits of CBD oil, I decided to ask a friend of mine Neal Locke, who also happens to be the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in El Paso, Texas, to try CBD oil for himself and report back to me. Thankfully, he was more than willing to accept the challenge.
My request was simply this: Try CBD oil for a few weeks and let me know what you experience – good, bad or neutral – as a result of using the product.
I was very clear up front with Pastor Locke that I was looking for an honest assessment of his actual experiences with CBD oil, not an endorsement of the product, and not an overly-critical bias; just a factual report.
Here’s what my friend experienced after using CBD oil twice a day for 3 weeks:
“I took two droppers of CBD each day, to start with,” said Pastor Locke. “First, for two weeks at night before bed, and then in week three I switched to mornings.”
Pastor Locke said he only experienced mild positive results after taking CBD oil.
“At first, it seemed like the CBD oil was helping my sleep,” he said, “but that didn’t continue with any consistency after the first few days.”
The main negative experience he had with CBD oil was largely superficial.
“Except for confirmation that CBD oil doesn’t really taste good, despite the supposed peppermint flavoring, I didn’t really have any noticeable negative reactions,” he said.
Overall, Pastor Locke’s experience was unremarkable.
“I didn’t notice any adverse effects,” he admits, “but no real positives either. I wondered if my body weight would call for a larger dose to observe significant effects. But, in a nutshell, I’d have to say that my overall reaction has been neutral.”
Even so, he admits that further research may be required.
“I feel like there are so many variables at play,” he said. “For example, I’d have to really stabilize my diet, sleep, and activity patterns to say anything more conclusively.”
Obviously, each person’s experience with CBD oil may vary. Some people report dramatic changes in their sleep patterns, an increase in appetite, and a reduction in body pains and inflammation. Others, like my friend Pastor Locke, experience mild improvements or nothing at all. Still others have very negative reactions to CBD oil and report an increase in anxiety, fatigue and drowsiness.
These varied reactions are due to a variety of factors. Sometimes the reactions can be traced to the brand of CBD oil being used. Other factors like the purity of the CBD oil, the dosage being taken – some people require much larger doses to achieve any real positive effects, while others require much lower doses – and, of course, the person taking the CBD oil is another variable in the equation. If the person taking the CBD oil has health issues like chronic pain, insomnia, epileptic seizures, etc., he or she may experience much more positive results from using CBD compared to someone who is relatively healthy and not suffering from ailments that require healing. Some people who have been diagnosed with various mental illnesses have also reported negative side effects from using CBD oil.
As always, it’s a good idea to consult a physician before taking any form of medication or herbal supplement to determine if it’s safe for your consumption.
